On the heels of winning its third consecutive America East Commissioner's Cup, Boston University also led the conference in this year's final standings for the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup, the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) announced Thursday.

With seven Terrier teams contributing points to the school total from their efforts in NCAA postseason competition during 2007-08, BU earned a total of 263.50 points and finished 76th in the nation, its highest ranking in eight years.

The Terriers finished first among schools in the America East Conference, outpacing No. 100 New Hampshire by 76.5 points. In addition, BU ranked fourth among similarly structured athletic departments (those in the sub-division formerly known as I-AAA).

"What a fantastic way for us to finish the 2007-08 school year," Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Lynch said. "Terrier Athletics prides itself on success across the board, and our coaches and student-athletes deserve a great deal of credit for this important accomplishment."

BU's field hockey and lacrosse teams each earned 60 points for reaching the quarterfinals of their NCAA tournaments. The women's track and field program yielded a total of 68.5 points, with 43.5 earned during indoor and 25 for outdoor. The men's soccer, women's soccer and women's tennis teams each received 25 points by qualifying for their respective NCAA tournaments.

The Directors' Cup is presented annually by NACDA, United States Sports Academy and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country in NCAA Divisions I, II, and III and the NAIA. The 2007-08 winners were announced and awarded their Directors' Cups at NACDA's 43rd Annual Convention in Dallas. The winning institutions were Stanford in Division I, Grand Valley State (Mich.) in Division II, Williams (Mass.) in Division III and Azusa Pacific (Calif.) in the NAIA. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 20 sports - 10 men's and 10 women's.
