The Terrier Twelve: No. 4 - Dini's Half-Court Buzzer-Beater Lifts BU Past Hartford

Dini tallied 19 points to lead the Terriers past Hartford.

July 3, 2008

Coming in at No. 4 on The Terrier Twelve is Kristi Dini's thrilling half-court buzzer-beater that lifted the women's basketball team past Hartford, 62-60, at Case Gym in the America East conference opener on Jan. 5. The Terriers erased a 16-point second-half deficit with a rally that culminated in Dini's last-chance shot.

With five seconds remaining in regulation, point guard Christine Kinneary rushed the ball up court and dished it off to Dini, who unloaded the game-winning half-court shot with two Hawks guarding her. The shot banked off the backboard and in for the win as the Terriers rushed the court to celebrate.

The win helped keep the Terriers undefeated at Case Gym and also gave them their first win over the Hawks since Feb. 7, 2004 - a streak of eight games. All of Dini's game-high 19 points came in the second half, as she was 6-for-13 from the field and 4-for-9 from behind the arc.

BU went on to maintain a perfect home record at Case Gym in 2007-08, winning all 11 games at the Roof. The Terriers also provided their fans with an exhilarating ride through the America East Women's Basketball Championship, which included a win over UMBC and a double-overtime victory in the semifinals against Vermont. In the championship contest, BU faced off against Hartford with the Hawks earning the conference title. BU finished the season with a 20-12 overall record - its first 20-win season in 20 years.

After the holiday weekend, The Terrier Twelve will return on Monday, July 7, to kick off the top three.
