Enos Named All-American; Cross, Merkle On Region Team
December 13, 2000 | Women's Soccer

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America named Enos, a senior from Milton, Second Team All-American.
She thus became the first player in the six-year history of women's soccer at B.U. to be named to an All-American.
The NSCAA also voted Enos a First Team All NorthEast Regional All-Star along with junior defender Megan Cross (Pembroke). In, addition, sophomore midfielder Allison Merkle (Baltimore, MD) was named to the Third Team.
The All-American honor joins the list of other Enos firsts that include:
- First in career goals with 51
- First in career points with 121. Only one other player in the history of soccer at B.U. has scored more points, and that was Chris Bone, who tallied 143 points for the men's soccer team from 1994 through 1997.
- First in goals in a season with 20, which she had during the 2000 season. She also has the second-highest single-season goal total with 16, which she had in 1999.
- She was the first Terrier to be voted the America East Women's Soccer Player of the Year. She earned that accolade during the 1999 season.
- Then, this past season, she repeated the Player of the Year honor, becoming the first Terrier to repeat.
- This past season, as team co-captain and the Terriers' top offensive threat, she helped lead the team to its first-ever America East regular-season title.
- Then, in the post-season playoffs, the Terriers defeated Towson and Hartford to win its first-ever tournament title and earn the program's first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament.
- In the playoffs, B.U. blanked Holy Cross, 1-0, before its season came to an end at Dartmouth in a 4-1 loss.

"This is a tremendous honor for Deidre," said Terrier head coach Nancy Feldman. "Only four players from our region were named First or Second Team All-American. This also makes her one of the top 22 women's collegiate players in the nation. "Coaches vote for the All-Americans, and they can vote for only players they have seen," Feldman continued. "So, this shows what the coaches we played against thought of 'D'. "Because of how well she played during the 1999 season, she was a marked player this past year," said Feldman. "Despite this, she had her best season for us, and coaches were very impressed with how well she played.

"What's more, with both Megan and Allison being underclassmen, it bodes well for the future." A starting defender in all 23 games this past season and in 44 straight over the past two years, Cross scored goals against Northeastern and Towson. She was also named First Team All-Conference and voted to the Conference All-Tournament Team.
Merkle, who started 22 of the team's 23 games, led the team in assists with 7, while she was tied for second in points with 13.
