BOSTON - Despite recording 46 shots, the 11th-ranked Boston University men's ice hockey team dropped a 3-1 contest to No. 5/6 New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at Agganis Arena.

The Terriers fall to 6-4-0 overall and 5-3-0 in Hockey East play while the Wildcats improve to 8-1-1 with a 6-1-1 conference mark.

After the visitors scored twice in the opening period, freshman Danny O'Regan got BU on the board when he cashed in on a rebound at 4:40 of the second. That tally ended an impressive UNH shutout skein at 204:40.

BU recorded 17 shots in both the second and third periods, but went 0-for-7 on its power play over that span and was never able to earn an equalizer.

Kevin Goumas added an empty-netter in the final second of the contest for his second goal of the game to create the 3-1 final.

Casey DeSmith turned in an impressive 45-save performance for the Wildcats, who went 0-for-2 on their power play. Freshman Matt O'Connor shook off the two first-period goals by UNH to post 32 saves for the Terriers.

Goumas opened the scoring 11:34 into the contest when he converted from the high slot following a BU turnover in its own zone that was caused on a tipped pass by Dalton Speelman.

Under three minutes later, the Wildcats doubled their lead when freshman Maxim Gaudreault tucked a rebound underneath O'Connor's legs outside the left post. Justin Agosta took the initial shot and Scott Pavelski also assisted on the play.

The Terriers had five power-play chances in the second period alone and scored its lone goal soon after its second opportunity with the man advantage expired.

UNH dumped a puck into the left corner of the BU zone and freshman Matt Grzelcyk gathered it before skating through the Wildcat defense and firing a shot from the right circle. O'Regan was there for the rebound at the foot of the left circle and converted for his fifth goal of the season. Grzelcyk extended his point streak to six games with the assist.

BU will return to action on Saturday (Nov. 24) when it plays host to St. Lawrence. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
