CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After averaging 24.0 points per game last week, senior Chantell Alford of the Boston University women’s basketball team earned her second consecutive America East Player of the Week award as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Alford began last week with one of the best games of her career, as she scored a career-high 30 points in BU’s narrow 60-57 loss to No. 14/22 West Virginia on Monday, Nov. 16. The senior connected on a six shots from beyond the arc and sunk a pair of free throws to tie the game, 57-57, with 29 seconds remaining in regulation. Alford also pulled down nine boards and dished out a pair of assists against the Mountaineers.
In Friday’s 70-61 win over Richmond, the West Haven, Conn., native led the team for the third straight game with 18 points. Alford added four rebounds, four assists, three steals and a block to her stat line against the Spiders.
The two-time America East Player of the Year leads BU through the first three games of the season with 21.7 ppg and is third on the team with 6.7 ppg. She is shooting 42.6 percent from the field and 44.0 percent from beyond the arc. Alford currently ranks fifth in program history with 1,374 points.
The Terriers return to action tomorrow night when they make the short trip to Northeastern to face the Huskies. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
