BOSTON - Before taking a two-game road trip to the city of Baltimore, the Boston University men's basketball team will host New Hampshire in Case Gym on Wednesday night with action slated for 7 p.m.
The Terriers (14-13, 10-3 AE) enter on a three-game win streak and will be looking for their fourth sweep of the conference schedule after beating Albany, Binghamton and Maine a second time last week. Through 27 games, BU has recorded 1,749 points and allowed 1,749 points, but in league play, has outscored opponents by 8.5 points per game.
Leading BU is reigning America East Player of the Week Darryl Partin, who scored a career-high 33 points against the Great Danes and followed with a team-high 14 points in the win over the Black Bears. He ranks 15th nationally in scoring at 19.9 ppg and is followed on the team by sophomore D.J. Irving at 12.0 ppg. They are helping the Terriers average 64.8 ppg, which ranks fifth in the conference.
On the defensive end, sophomore Dom Morris is averaging a team-high 5.7 rpg, while senior Patrick Hazel is second at 5.4 rpg. Hazel swatted away four shot attempts from Maine last Thursday and is two blocks away from moving into second place all-time at BU. He is averaging 1.8 bpg and is on pace to become the first Terrier since 2007 to lead the league in blocks.
They will face off against the league's top rebounder in Brian Benson, who is averaging 8.6 rpg. Alvin Abreu is New Hampshire's top scorer at 13.9 ppg, while Chandler Rhoads is second at 11.3 ppg. As a team, the Wildcats are averaging 61.9 ppg but feature a defense that allows just 63.6 ppg, third best in the conference. The Wildcats (10-14, 5-8 AE) has won three of the last four games and will be seeking its first three-game win streak of the season.
In the last meeting between the two programs, BU grinded out a 52-50 victory behind 20 points from Partin and an impressive defensive effort that led to 23 UNH turnovers. The Terriers improved to 94-37 all-time in the series with the win.
Following the contest, BU will put its perfect 4-0 BracketBusters record on the line at Loyola (Md.) on Sunday (Feb. 19) at 12 p.m.
