WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The No. 6 Boston University women’s ice hockey team was selected second in the 2012-13 Hockey East preseason coaches’ poll, the league office announced on Thursday.
The Terriers, who enter the season as defending conference champions, earned three first-place votes and 51 total points to finish second in the poll behind Boston College, which earned the other five first-place votes and 54 total points. Northeastern (44 points) was slotted third, followed by Providence (37), Maine (30), New Hampshire (28), Vermont (22) and Connecticut (14).
In 2011-12, BU won its second Hockey East title in three seasons and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the third consecutive year. The Terriers won their last eight league contests of the season before defeating New Hampshire, Boston College and Providence in the conference tournament.
BU will host McGill in an exhibition game at Walter Brown Arena on Sunday, Sept. 30, at 3 p.m. The Terriers open the regular season at fourth-ranked BC on Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
