BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team opened America East play with a 3-1 win over Albany Sunday afternoon at Nickerson Field. In a rematch of last year's conference championship game, BU dominated Albany with an 18-1 shot advantage to improve to 5-5-1 (1-0 AE) on the season while Albany dropped to 3-7-1 (0-1 AE). BU also improved to 14-0-0 all-time against Albany.

The Terriers preserved their 25-game winning streak against conference opponents with a trio of goals after the Great Danes took an early lead in the first half. In the seventh minute of action, Shayla Bergeron fed a pass through the middle to Chelsea DeVerna who beat BU goalkeeper Andrea Green on the breakaway with Albany's only shot of the game to give the Great Danes an early 1-0 lead.

Senior Brea Hewitt came off the bench for the Terriers in the 29th minute of the match and made her presence immediately felt with the equalizer in the same minute. Hewitt scored her third goal of the season as she found the top left corner of the net from a shot to the left of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

Sophomore Dara DeMatteo started the second half on the field for the Terriers and scored her first career goal in the 54th minute on an unassisted tally from the right of the net. DeMatteo swiped the ball from a pair of Albany defenders and fired a shot from about 10 yards out to the right of the net and past Albany's Alana Brennan to give BU a 2-1 advantage.

Fellow sophomore Ana Cuffia scored her second goal in as many games for the Terriers in the 73rd minute when junior Emma Clark sent a cross from the top of the box to the left side of the net. Cuffia gathered the pass and found the back of the net to seal BU's 3-1 victory.

The Terriers dominated Albany from the start and outshot the Great Danes, 18-1. BU also held a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

BU remains at home and welcomes Maine to Nickerson Field on Thursday (Sept. 27). First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m.
