WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month, the league office announced Thursday.
Sperry leads the league with a 1.74 goals-against average and a .946 save percentage in five starts. She also ranks in the top 10 among NCAA goaltenders in both of those categories. Sperry is 4-0-1 this season and has not allowed more than two goals in any of her appearances. The North Reading, Mass., native has stopped at least 30 shots in three tilts and 69 of her 158 saves have come in either the third period or overtime.
This is the second straight Goaltender of the Month honor for Sperry; she won the award last March thanks to her impressive postseason run that culminated in a national title game appearance. Sperry was also honored as Goaltender of the Month in December 2010.
BU will hit the road to face New Hampshire on Friday night before returning to Walter Brown Arena for a home date with Vermont on Saturday afternoon (4 p.m.).
