BOSTON - The No. 17 Boston University men's ice hockey team fell to archrival Boston College, 5-1, at Agganis Arena on Friday evening. The Terriers move to 4-5-0 overall and 2-2-0 in Hockey East play.
The Eagles (5-2-1, 3-0-0 Hockey East) got a three-point night from junior Johnny Gaudreau, who earned firststar honors after scoring the game-winning goal and adding two assists.
After BC took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission, freshman Nick Roberto scored the Terriers' lone goal of the night off a power play early in the second period to make it one-goal game. The Eagles, however, responded less than five minutes later with a goal by Bill Arnold to regain a two-goal edge.
BC's Kevin Hayes and Destry Straight scored goals within a minute apart in the third to seal the 5-1 win.
Sophomore goaltender Matt O'Connor turned away 35 BC shots on the evening while the Eagles got a 22-save performance from Thatcher Demko.
The Eagles opened the scoring midway through the first period at 9:10 when Austin Cangelosi cashed in from the top of the crease following a pass from Gaudreau. Danny Linell also assisted on the play.
Just over two minutes later at 11:36, BC took the two-goal lead when Gaudreau converted a wrister from the inside of the left circle following a pass Arnold.
The Terriers capitalized on the man-advantage at 1:59 of the second to get within one when a shot by freshman Robbie Baillargeon from above the left circle went off Roberto and in. Junior Evan Rodrigues picked up the secondary assist.
The Terriers will return to action next Friday (Nov. 15) when they travel to Maine for a 7 p.m. start.
