STORRS, Conn. - The No. 4 Boston University women's ice hockey team clinched its second Hockey East regular-season title in program history with a 4-2 victory over Connecticut on Sunday afternoon at Freitas Ice Forum.

BU (23-5-3, 18-2-1 WHEA) finished the conference schedule with a program record 18 wins and will have the top seed in the 2013 Hockey East tournament. The Terriers will host Connecticut (3-28-3, 1-19-1 WHEA) on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena in a Hockey East quarterfinal game. It will be the third straight contest between the two teams.

The line of freshman Sarah Lefort (2g, 1a), junior co-captain Marie-Philip Poulin (2a) and senior Jenelle Kohanchuk (1g, 2a) each had multiple-point efforts. Junior Louise Warren also lit the lamp for the Terriers and junior goaltender Kerrin Sperry made 16 saves to earn her 19th win of the season.

Warren opened the Terriers' account just 2:29 into the proceedings. Senior Isabel Menard won a faceoff back to sophomore Kayla Tutino, who passed it to the left point for classmate Shannon Stoneburgh. Tutino got the puck right back in the left circle and fired a shot on goal. Elaine Chuli (40 saves) made the initial stop, but Warren knocked in the rebound from the top of the crease for her 12th goal of the season.

Connecticut evened the score nearly 2:30 after Warren's marker when Brittany Berisoff scored her seventh goal of the year. The score remained tied until the Terriers converted on their second power play chance of the game with 3:00 remaining in the period. Poulin cycled the puck to Lefort behind the net, who then found Kohanchuk in front. The senior forward one-timed the puck past Chuli for her 18th goal of the season.

Lefort made it 3-1 at the 10:12 mark of the second stanza. Kohanchuk got the puck to Poulin in the right circle, who then slid a perfect pass to Lefort below the hash marks. Lefort deposited the puck past Chuli for her first goal of the game.

Sperry only had to make five saves in each of the first two periods, but some of them were superb. She robbed Michela Cava with about seven minutes remaining in the second period when BU was ahead by only a goal. Her rebound control was sound and the Terrier defense limited second-chance opportunities for the Huskies.

It took just 1:32 of the third period for Lefort to score her second goal of the contest. Junior Kaleigh Fratkin started the play when she chipped the puck off the boards to Kohanchuk, who skated up the left wing to form a 2-on-1 chance with Lefort. There was nothing Chuli could do as Lefort buried Kohanchuk's pass for her team-leading 19th goal of the season.

The Huskies scored a late goal with 4.6 seconds remaining in regulation to conclude the scoring. The teams combined for 18 goals in two games this weekend.

The Hockey East quarterfinal contest between BU and Connecticut at Walter Brown Arena on Saturday (March 2) will be held at 3 p.m.
