Sacramento, Calif. - No. 9 Boston University men's rowing will send four boats to Lake Natoma for the 111th IRA National Championship Regatta over a three-day period beginning Friday (May 31) in Sacramento, Calif. The Terriers will compete against 22 other schools for the national championship. Last year, BU placed seventh led by top-10 finishes in the varsity eight and freshman eight races.

Extremely high temperatures are expected in Sacramento starting Friday with the forecast calling for 100 degrees for Sunday's championship races.

Competition will begin on Friday with the Terriers' V8 heat starting at 8:30 a.m. The top two finishers will advance to Saturday's semifinals, while the others will have to compete in a repechage later in the afternoon. Seeded ninth, BU's V8 boat will race against No. 1 Washington, No. 8 Yale, No. 16 Dartmouth, and No. 17 Drexel. The Terriers varsity eight boat is coming off a Grand Finals appearance at the Eastern Sprints on May 19 in which it placed sixth behind No. 2 Harvard, No. 3 Brown, No. 5 Northeastern, No. 7 Princeton and No. 8 Yale.

Seeded eighth, the 2V8 will race No. 1 Washington, No. 11 Cornell, No. 16 Dartmouth and No. 18 Oregon at 9 a.m. Later in the morning the ninth-seeded F8 boat will race at 10:15 a.m. against No. 3 California, No. 4 Brown and No. 10 Princeton. The unseeded varsity four will concluded the morning session at 10:45 a.m.

The Repechage races will begin at 2 p.m. for teams not earning an automatic semifinal berth in the morning.

In 2011, the Terriers placed tied-for-eighth at the IRAs behind a Grand Final appearance by the freshman eight boat. In 2010, the Terriers won the Petite Final in both the V8 and F8 and finished sixth in the team standings. In head coach Thomas Bohrer's first year at the helm in 2009, BU took seventh and received the Clayton Chapman Award for being the most improved team in the country.
