WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Ten members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were named to the 2013 Hockey East All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Seniors Alissa Fromkin and Cristina Wiley each earned Distinguished Scholar status, two of 10 student-athletes to achieve that honor. Both Fromkin and Wiley maintained a 3.0 grade-point average or better in each semester over their four varsity seasons at BU. Fromkin maintained a 3.72 GPA with a concentration in Middle Eastern Studies while Wiley earned a 3.68 GPA as an architectural studies major.
Senior Jill Cardella (3.40, advertising) and junior Meghan Riggs (3.29, journalism) were each selected to the squad for the third consecutive year. Junior Kaleigh Fratkin (3.10, journalism), senior Britt Hergesheimer (3.09, business administration and management), freshman Jordan Juron (3.11, undecided), senior Isabel Menard (3.37, sociology), senior Kathryn Miller (3.38, advertising) and junior Kerrin Sperry (3.38, political science) were all recognized on the All-Academic Team for the first time.
In all, 90 student-athletes from the eight-team conference collected All-Academic honors. Each student-athlete achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.
