Academic Awards Announced in Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - Junior Cole Puchi of the Boston University men's swimming and diving team was named the Patriot League's Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year and also earned a spot on the Academic All-League team, as announced on Monday by the league office.
The Scholar-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-League team are nominated and voted on by the League's swimming and diving sports information directors who cannot case a ballot of their own student-athletes.
Puchi was named to the All-Patriot League first team after finishing third in the 200 freestyle in a school-record time of 1:37.68 and placed eighth in the 50 freestyle. The junior was a member of the BU record-setting 400 medley and 800 freestyle teams that each placed second. He also swam a leg of the second place 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams at the championship meet.
The Tuscon, Ariz., native owns a 3.58 GPA as a business administration and management major and previously earned a spot on the 2012 and 2013 America East Commissioner's Honor Roll prior to BU's move to the Patriot League.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
