Two Boston University Terriers will compete in the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships beginning July 23 in Varese, Italy.

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. native Kyle Peabody, who graduated in May, will row in the men’s four competition for the United States while rising sophomore Fionnan McQuillan-Tolan will race for his native Ireland, also in the men’s four.

Peabody and McQuillan-Tolan were both part of BU’s varsity eight boat that competed at the 2014 IRA National Championships in West Windsor, N.J. The two helped BU win the IRA Chapman Award, given to the team with the largest increase in points over the previous year and to a sixth-place team finish overall.

Peabody was one of 20 U.S. rowers selected back in May to compete for a U23 National Team roster spot and rowed for the spot at the U.S. Under 23 World Championship Trials held in June in West Windsor, N.J.

The 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships is a five-day competition featuring 20 rowing events.
