The Boston University women's soccer team will begin a five-game homestand on Sunday when the Terriers take on San Francisco at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 12 p.m.
BU (4-1-0) has won two straight games, including a 2-1 triumph at Providence on Thursday night. Senior Jamie Turchi scored in the 89th minute to secure the result while classmate Ana Cuffia had a goal and an assist. The Terriers also defeated the College of Charleston, 1-0, last Sunday. BU is 2-0-0 at Nickerson Field this year, including a 2-1 victory over then-No. 19 Boston College on Aug. 24.
The back line for the Terriers has been terrific over the last two victories, allowing just two shots on target in the run of play over 180 minutes. The one blemish in the pair of fixtures came when Providence converted from the penalty spot on Thursday. Senior Alyssa Parisi made one save at PC to preserve the victory and she improved to 2-1-0 on the season. Sophomore Bridget Conway is 2-0-0 this year and has started one contest.
Four different Terriers have scored a game-winning goal this season, including junior Jenna Fisher, who is tied with Cuffia for the team lead with two goals. Cuffia leads the squad with four points and is one of seven players with an assist in 2014.
This will be the first-ever meeting between BU and San Francisco (2-2-1). The Dons dropped a 1-0 decision at Harvard on Friday night, with Madalyn Schiffel making four saves in her fourth start of the season. Jaciara Mello leads the team with two goals and is tied with Amanda Whittle (1g, 2a) for the lead with four points. Seven different Dons have scored this season and Friday night was the first time USF was held scoreless in 2014.
Following Sunday's showdown, BU will host Akron on Friday night at Nickerson Field. Opening kick is set for 7 p.m.
