Freshman Jack Eichel of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named the Hockey East Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Month for December, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Eichel recorded six points - all assists - during BU's three games in December and led the team to a 2-0-1 mark in the month.
In a 4-2 win over Merrimack on Dec. 6, the rookie centerman assisted on all four BU goals and then added two more helpers in a 5-1 win at Rensselaer on Dec. 13.
Eichel was also named captain of Team USA at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, scoring one goal and adding three assists in five games.
This is Eichel's third monthly honor from Hockey East, as he was also named Rookie of the Month in October before garnering Player of the Month accolades in Novemeber.
Junior Matt O'Connor was runner-up for Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for the third straight time, posting a 2-0-1 record in the month to go along with a 1.30 goals-against average and a .958 save percentage.
