Feb. 11, 2015
Boston University Track & Field, Cross Country, friends, family and alumni are all invited back to Boston on Feb 13-14 for Valentine's Day weekend to celebrate the many great generations of Terriers that have donned the scarlet 'BOSTON' across their chest.
The Terriers will honor BU great David Hemery by naming the BU Valentine Invitational in his honor and will also induct the first class of the BU Track and Field Wall of Honor.
“Over what is now more than half a century, I have had the wonderfully good fortune of getting to know so many of the terrific athletes and people who have graced the Terrier program,” said Boston University assistant director of track Bruce Lehane. “The program has had the best of the best - world record holders, Olympic medalists, NCAA record holders and NCAA champions. The impetus for the "Wall of Fame" is to recognize these champions, but also to reclaim and celebrate the remarkable legacy of many other former BU athlete, who gave their all for the team.”
The Wall of Honor has been created to recognize some of the best and brightest athletes that have come through the BU program. No better demonstration of the pedigree of alumni than in David Hemery, Olympic Gold Medalist and former World Record Holder.
The Valentine Invitation begins with women's competition early Friday afternoon running through the evening and continues with men's competition Saturday morning through the early evening. There will be a special section at the Track and Tennis center designated for BU Alums throughout competition.
On Saturday evening there will be an informal gather in the Eilberg Lounge just a short distance from the Track and Tennis Center starting at 6 p.m.
