The sixth-ranked Boston University women's ice hockey team will host No. 1 Boston College for Senior Day on Saturday at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
BU (21-8-2, 15-5-0 WHEA) will honor its five seniors as well as its senior student manager in a pregame ceremony. Over the last four seasons, the Terriers have won 96 games, advanced to three NCAA tournaments and one Frozen Four, and won three straight Hockey East championships. In addition, Marie-Philip Poulin was part of the 2010-11 team that went to the NCAA title game and won 27 contests.
The five Terriers honored on Saturday are Sarah Bayersdorfer, Caroline Campbell, Shannon Doyle, Shannon Stoneburgh and Poulin. Student manager Joe Cappuccio will also be recognized for his tireless work behind the scenes. Combined, the five players have scored 102 goals and added 197 assists for 299 career points.
In addition to Senior Day, Walter Brown is also hosting the eighth annual ChiliFest on Saturday. Fans will be able to try free samples of five different chili recipes from BU Dining. The first 300 fans will also receive a free mini BU Hockey stick.
The Terriers will look to hand BC (30-1-1, 20-0-0 WHEA) its lone Hockey East loss of the season after the Eagles defeated the Terriers, 5-0, on Thursday. BU dominated much of the second period of Thursday's game but was unable to break through. Freshman Erin O'Neil stopped 30 shots for the Terriers.
Both teams know their postseason fate within the Hockey East playoffs, as BC will be the top seed and BU the second seed. Neither team will know its opponent until after Saturday at the earliest. BU will likely not know who it will host next weekend until the conclusion of play on Sunday.
