WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Three members of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were recognized by Hockey East on Wednesday, as senior captain Marie-Philip Poulin was named Hockey East Best Defensive Forward and freshmen Victoria Bach and Rebecca Leslie were each selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team.
This is the first time that Poulin has been honored as the league's best defensive forward and she becomes the second Terrier to receive the honor; Holly Lorms took home the hardware in 2011. Poulin has been one of the best centers in the country this season. She won 64.4 percent of faceoffs she took in league play, which ranked second in Hockey East. Poulin also led the Terrier penalty kill and excelled off the stat sheet with her skating and backchecking ability.
Bach was a unanimous selection to the All-Rookie Team after a marvelous debut season. She currently leads all NCAA rookies with 19 goals and lit the lamp 13 times in league play, which was also tops among WHEA freshmen. The Milton, Ontario, native finished with 19 points in conference play, good for third among freshmen. Bach also led Hockey East rookies with six power-play goals and led that group with an average of 3.03 shots on goal per game. She was the Hockey East Rookie of the Month for February and took just two penalties for four minutes all season.
Leslie was fifth among Hockey East rookies with 25 points during the regular season on 11 goals and 14 assists. Eighteen of those points came during league play, which put her fourth in the conference among first-year skaters. She began the season with seven points (3g, 4a) in October en route to being named Hockey East Rookie of the Month. The Ottawa, Ontario, native was also a plus-24 during the regular season and factored on six game-winning goals.
The remaining end-of-season awards will be announced at the 13th annual Women's Hockey East Awards Banquet Friday night at the Cape Codder Resort and Spa in Hyannis, Massachusetts.
