The No. 3 Boston University's Women's Lightweight Team raced at the Knecht Cup this weekend on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. Coming off their second place finish in the varsity lightweight eight at the San Diego Crew Classic, the Terriers competed in the lightweight eight, the varsity open weight eight, and the varsity lightweight four events over the weekend.

The Terriers entered two boats, the varsity "A" and second varsity "B", in the varsity lightweight eight event. Both boats qualified in their respective heats on Saturday afternoon. In the first heat, the "A" boat won in 6:43.29, while the "B" boat placed third in the second heat in 6:47.19.

After the lightweight eight heat, the first varsity eight quickly headed back to the top of the race course for the heat of the varsity open weight event. In heat one, the lightweights placed second in 6:45.68 to qualify for the semi-finals the next day. Less than two hours after a hard fought race in the lightweight eight final, the Terriers placed fifth in their semi-final and would race to a second-place finish in 7:01.56 in the third level final.

On Sunday morning, they lined up against Radcliffe, Princeton, Wisconsin, and Villanova for the grand final. The Terriers first varsity boat led from the start by a narrow margin ahead of Radcliffe until the last quarter of the race. Princeton steadily moved up the pack and Radcliffe began to sprint and pulled to nearly a length lead, but the Terriers were able to walk back half a length to finish third in 6:51.59, only .90 of a second behind Princeton, and 2.45 seconds behind Radcliffe.

In the same race, the second varsity eight was as the only "B" boat to make the grand final. The Terriers fought hard with the pace of the other crews and had an amazing fifth place finish in 6:58.30, only .28 seconds behind Wisconsin and 4.28 seconds ahead of Villanova.

In the lightweight four event, the Terriers placed second in their morning heat in 8:11.65 to qualify for the afternoon grand final. Racing against a group of second varsity lightweight crews split into fours, the terriers were able to race well with the pack, finishing fifth in 7:55.22.

Next weekend the lightweights will race on their home course in the annual Boston Lightweight Invite on the Charles River. On Saturday morning, the terriers will race No. 1 Stanford in the varsity and the second varsity eight. On Sunday morning, No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Radcliffe, No. 3 Boston University, No. 6 University of Wisconsin, and No. 10 MIT will race in two heats to determine the grand final of the weekend.
