West Point, N.Y. - Highlighted by five victories on Saturday, the Boston University men's track & field team finished fourth at the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Army West Point.
BU finished with 135.5 points, comfortably ahead of fifth-place Lehigh (92 points). Navy claimed first with 251.5 points, followed by host Army (152) and Bucknell (137).
In the men's 1,500 meter run, four Terriers scored points including senior Rich Peters who won the event for the second-consecutive year with a time of 3:47.77. Sophomore Matti Groll finished third with a time of 3:51.89 while junior Kevin Thomas finished sixth (3:53.12) and senior Ben Ravetz took eighth (3:53.94).
Sophomore Cameron Williams had a very impressive meet, winning the 200 meter dash in a time of 20.78 and finishing second in the 100m dash, tying Johann Jack's school record of 10.48 set back in 1998 in the process. In other strong dash performances, David Lagerberg took third in the 200 meters in 21.26. Sophomore Justin Flynn (10.76) and freshman Jordan Love (10.82) also placed fifth and seventh in the 100m dash respectively.
Junior David Lagerberg added to BU's medal total, winning the 400 meter dash in 46.90 seconds.
Juniors Paul Gennaro and Alec Olson scored for the Terriers in the 5000 meter run, with Gennaro taking fifth in 15:06.40 while Olson finished eighth in 15:12.56. Sophomore Ethan Homan finished third in the 800 meter run in 1:51.84.
The 4 x 100 meter relay of Justin Flynn, Cameron Williams, Alastair Prenn, and David Lagerberg finished in first place and set a school record at 40.65 seconds. In the final event of the meet, the 4 x 400 meter relay lineup of Alastair Prenn, Ethan Homan, Stuart Ross, and Cameron Williams finished 4th in 3:20.13.
In field events, sophomore David Oluwadara placed 3rd in the long jump on Friday then won the triple jump on Saturday with a mark of 15.32 meters (50' 3.25"). Senior Ethan Knight finished second place in the shot put with a mark of 17.20 meters (56' 5.25") and 4th place in the discus 50.03 meters (164' 2").
The first day of competition was highlighted by Junior Reuben Horace finishing in second place in the hammer throw with a season best mark of 59.21 meters.
BU will be back in action next weekend at the New England Championships (May 7-9).
