The No. 20 Boston University field hockey team will attempt to win the inaugural Tri-Conference Cup on Sunday (Aug. 30) when the Terriers host No. 18 Massachusetts at New Balance Field. The game, which will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network, starts at 6 p.m.
BU opened the Tri-Conference Cup and its 2015 season on Friday with a 4-3 triumph over New Hampshire. UNH rebounded with a 4-3 overtime victory over UMass in overtime on Saturday.
Four different BU players scored on Friday and freshman Kara Enoch impressed by recording two assists in her first game as a Terriers. Senior co-captain Sofi Laurito provided the late game-winner with a redirect in the 69th minute.
The Terriers hold a 19-16-2 lead in their all-time series with the Minutewomen. UMass has won the past two meetings, however, with the former ending a 10-win game streak by BU in the intrastate rivalry. Last season, BU dropped a 2-1 overtime contest in Amherst.
The Minutewomen posted an 11-10 record last season and reached the Atlantic 10 title game before falling in overtime to Richmond. UMass returns its top eight scorers from that squad and the group is led by reigning A-10 Rookie of the Year Melanie Kreusch, who tallied team highs in points (24) and goals (10) as a freshman.
Kreusch, classmate Sarah Hawkshaw, junior Izzie Delario and senior Sam Carlino were all named to the A-10 Preseason All-Conference Team. Hawkshaw scored two goals in Saturday's contest versus UNH and Kreusch added the other tally.
