The Boston University women's openweight rowing team competed against the top teams on the East Coast at the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass. on Sunday. The day was highlighted by the varsity eight boat winning the petite final and the second varsity eight boat advancing to the grand finals.

The competition opened with heat racing in the morning, with boats needing to finish in the top two in their respective races to advance to the grand final.

Competing against a tough field, the Terriers' varsity eight went up against Harvard, Rutgers, West Virginia and Buffalo. The 1V, coxed by junior Marlaina Miller and stroked by classmate Annalise Routenberg, finished third with a time of 7:05.7, ahead of West Virginia (7:14.9) and Buffalo (7:29.4) but behind heat winner Harvard (6:53) and second-place finisher Rutgers (6:59.5) and moved on to the petite final.

In the petite final, the first varsity finished first with a time of (7:12.34), defeating crews from Drexel, M.I.T, Bucknell, Georgetown, West Virginia and Buffalo.

The second varsity eight boat, coxed by sophomore Jessica Grossman and stroked by classmate Melanie Norman, advanced to the grand finals with a strong performance in their morning heat race. The 2V finished second with a time of 7:11.45 behind only Harvard (7:07.75) and ahead of Drexel (7:18.5), West Virginia (7:27.88) and Buffalo (7:47.35).

In the 2V grand final the Terriers finished sixth with a time of 7:40.8. Harvard won the grand final while Northeastern was second and Dartmouth took third.

The third varsity eight boat, coxed by freshman Rishika Gupta and stroked by junior Emily Bakinowski, needed to finish in the top three of its morning heat race to advance to the grand finals but finished fifth with a time of 7:57.7. Harvard's 3V (7:19.41) and 4V (7:28.1) finished in first and second respectively followed by Dartmouth in third (7:33.2) and Drexel in fourth (7:35.7). BU finished ahead of sixth-place Buffalo (8:15.45).

In the petite final, the 3V finished third with a time of 8:15.15 behind Drexel (7:59.01) and Buckenll (8:14.08) and ahead of Buffalo and Rutgers.

The Terriers' V4A finished third in its heat race and moved on the petite final where it finished second behind only Columbia. The V4B finished fourth in its heat and moved onto the petite final where it finished third.

The openweights will next compete at the Patriot League Championships on May 13 in Worcester. The Terriers will look for their third conference championship in four years and a trip to the NCAA Championships in Sacramento beginning on May 27.
