Terriers Prevail at Army, 12-11

West Point, N.Y. – In a back-and-forth contest, Taylor Hardison scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with just over two minutes left as the Boston University women's lacrosse team prevailed, 12-11, over Army West Point Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium.

  • With time winding down, Avery Donahoe worked around the cage found Hardison darting through the lane, who quickly delivered her third score of the game to give BU a one-goal edge.
  • Following Hardison's score, Army won the ensuing draw and worked the clock down until getting a clean look and firing what proved to be its last shot off with 30 seconds left, but Caroline Meegan collected her 14th to fend off the Black Knights.
  • With the victory, BU has now won back-to-back one-goal games for the first time since 2014. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Army raced out to a 2-0 advantage in the early minutes of the game as the Terriers turned it over on their opening possessions.
  • Mickenzie Larivee breathed life into BU's attack by with a quick strike off a feed from Kailey Conry with 23:04 left in the first, and Donahoe followed by skipping in a free position shot to knot the score at 2-2.
  • Maggie Lohrer netted her first career goal to give the Terriers their first lead of the contest at 3-2 with 15:42 left before the half.
  • The lead was short-lived as Army tied it right back up just over two minutes later before going back in front, 4-3, at the 12:18 mark.
  • Taylor Hardison delivered a floater that found its way past the keeper, and followed by assisting on a slick one-footed shot by Donahoe that put BU back on top, 6-5, with 8:39 left in the first.
  • Larivee furthered BU's run to 3-0 by dodging her way through traffic and snapping the back of the net with her second score of the game, sending the Terriers to the locker room with a 6-5 command.
  • Coming out of the half, Larivee and Hardison stayed hot with back-to-back scores to give the Terriers their largest lead of the game at 8-5.
  • From there, Army control the draw control as it reeled off a 4-0 to claim control of the scoreboard, 9-8, with 22:52 left in the game.
  • Conry put a stop to a 10-minute scoring drought for the Terriers with back-to-back goals for the Terriers, knotting the score at 10-all.
  • Larivee reclaimed advantage of the scoreboard, 11-10, with 12:49 on the clock before Army delivered the game's eighth eighth equalizer with four minutes to go, though Hardison tabbed her second straight hat trick to seal the win.
GAME NOTES
  • BU won its first game at Army to improve to 2-0 in the all-time series.
  • Meegan finished with 14 saves for her 10th double-digit save performance of the season. She has five straight games of posting at least 11 saves, and has double-digit saves in seven of eight Patriot League games.
  • Larivee has posted a hat trick in each of the last five games and has 16 goals during the stretch.
  • Conry led the Terriers with five points on two goals and three assists for the second straight game. 
  • The Black Knights held a 16-9 advantage in draw controls, including a 9-4 advantage in the second half.
  • Charlotte Castronovo scooped up three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
  • Talley Perkins, Maria Guerra and Kelly Mathews won two draw controls apiece.
