CENTER VALLEY, Pa. –
After extending its home win streak to three games with a 75-63 victory over defending Southland Conference co-regular season champion Nicholls State, the Boston University men's basketball team swept the Patriot League weekly awards, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Junior Max Mahoney
was named Patriot League Player of the Week, while freshman Jordan Guest
was recognized as the Rookie of the Week. Both men collected their first-ever weekly awards from the conference. The announcement marks the second consecutive year the Terriers swept the two awards in one week after Cedric Hankerson
('18) and sophomore Walter Whyte
were both honored on January 2, 2018.
A native of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Mahoney averaged 21.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists to lead the Terriers (7-5) to a 1-1 week. The 2018 All-PL Third Team forward first connected on 10-of-14 shot attempts for 22 points in a 78-68 loss at Dartmouth and two days later followed up with a team-high 20 points (9-of-11 FG), seven rebounds and career-tying five assists against the Colonels. He has now tallied 20+ points in three straight games for the first time in his career and currently ranks ninth nationally at 67.9 FG%.
Guest made his first career start against Nicholls State and made it count with nine points and two rebounds in a season-high 22 minutes of action. He went 4-of-8 from the field and drained one of the Terriers' five 3-pointers. The Rancho Santa Margarita, California native is the second Terrier to be tabbed the top rookie this season after fellow classmate Jack Hemphill
was honored two weeks earlier.
Sitting at 7-5 for their best start through 12 games since 2013-14, the Terriers will next wrap up non-conference slate by hosting MEAC preseason favorite Bethune-Cookman on Friday (Dec. 21) at 7 p.m.
