Irving, Nelson Earn All-Patriot League Honors

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore Nia Irving and freshman Katie Nelson of the Boston University women's basketball have been recognized among the elite players in the conference as the pair collected All-Patriot League honors, the league office announced Friday.

Irving, who earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team a season ago, was named to the All-Patriot League Third Team, while Nelson picked up All-Rookie honors.

Irving posted a prolific sophomore campaign, notching six double-double and current leads the team in scoring (13.6) and rebounding (6.8). The Fairfield, Maine native is one of the most efficient players in the league as she leads all players with a .507 field goal percentage and also leads the league with a .541 shooting mark in conference games. Irving has willed the Terriers down the stretch, leading the team in both scoring and rebounding in five of the last eight games and has notched double-digit scoring figures in each.

Nelson provided immediate leadership at the point guard position, dishing out 3.5 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the league. The rookie is also effective from 3-point range, as she ranks second in the Patriot League with a .388 shooting clip from deep and ranks sixth with 1.9 triples per game. Hailing from Falmouth, Massachusetts, Nelson leads the league in minutes (34.8) and ranks second on the team in scoring (9.4).
 
BU, the No. 9 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, will open up its championship quest at No. 8 Lafayette for a first round matchup on Saturday, March 3 at 2 p.m.
