- The Boston University field hockey team will kick off the 2018 season ranked 19th in the country, as the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll was unveiled on Tuesday.
The Terriers are coming off a 2017 season in which they claimed its third Patriot League title in four years and won their opening game in the NCAA Tournament. BU finished 20th in the final 2017 NFHCA poll, marking the eighth time in nine seasons that it appeared in the last poll.
BU wil face eight teams that enter the season ranked, including the first two home opponents in No. 25 Maine (Aug. 31) and No. 24 Ohio State (Sept. 3). The Terriers will host top-ranked and defending national champion UConn on Oct. 21 as well as cross-town rival Harvard (Oct. 7), which enters the year ranked 15th.
On the road, the Terriers will visit No. 10 Princeton (Sept. 30) and No. 12 Northwestern (Sept. 9) before closing the regular season with a short drive to No. 13 Boston College on Oct. 28. BU will also take on No. 6 Penn State in a neutral-site contest at the University of Maryland on Sept. 16.
This Friday (Aug. 24), the Terriers will kick off the 2018 season at UNH for the Wildcat Classic. They will face Northeastern in the tournament opener at 3 p.m. on Friday before taking on either Massachusetts or the host Wildcats on Sunday (Aug. 26).
