BOSTON - Sophomore Ellie McIntyre and senior Kathryn Scheerer both scored in the second quarter to lift the Boston University field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over Colgate on Saturday afternoon at New Balance Field.
Playing its first home game in exactly 17 months, BU (3-0) erased an early 1-0 deficit thanks to Scheerer's second strike of the season and McIntyre's first goal of the campaign. Freshman Thalia Steenssens assisted on both goals to pick up the first two points of her collegiate career. Freshman Kate Thomason made two of her three saves in the fourth quarter to earn the win in her collegiate debut.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Colgate opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Taylor Casamassa converted a penalty stroke.
- BU answered in the 20th minute off its first penalty corner of the contest. Steenssens inserted directly to Scheerer, who fired home a shot past Anna Unger (one save).
- McIntyre gave BU the lead for good in the 28th minute. Steenssens received a pass in the circle and committed Unger to her right post before sliding the ball to McIntyre at the left post for the easy finish.
- The Terriers defended well in the second half, with Thomason making two crucial saves in the fourth quarter to keep the Raiders from equalizing.
