April 28, 2021 | Women's Soccer
BOSTON – With the end of the semester approaching, the Boston University women's soccer team celebrated its 26th season with a virtual banquet through Zoom on Tuesday night.
Lexi Schaffer was presented the first award, the BU Women's Soccer Alumni Association Most Improved Player, of the night. Schaffer earned time in all five games this season after competing and elevating her level of play in training throughout the year.
Alyssa Bourgeois earned the Rookie of the Year award after an impressive freshman campaign. Bourgeois started in four games, played the most minutes of any freshman, and was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week on March 23rd.
Jenna Oldham earned the Most Valuable Offensive Player honor after a breakout junior season. Oldham put forth an All-Patriot League First Team campaign, scoring or assisting on every goal this season, and led the team in both assists (3) and points (5).
Morgan Messner was selected as the Most Valuable Defensive Player for the second consecutive year. The All-Patriot League Second Team member played every minute in net and posted two clean sheets during the spring.
The Terrier Award, given to the most valuable team member, went to the three tri-captains and senior class of Amanda Fay, Ann Marie Jaworski and McKenna Kennedy. Facing an unpredicted year, the group supported every member of the team through a challenging year and embodied the spirit and resilience of a Terrier.
The final award, the Jean Kelleher Award, presented annually to a significant supporter of the program, went to Massimo Gioffre. Recently completing his third season as the team's strength & conditioning coach, Gioffre's passion and expertise has greatly impacted and improved student-athlete performance.
