WEST WINDSOR, NJ – The Boston University men's rowing team competed in day 1 of the IRA National Championship Regatta on Friday. The Terriers' varsity eight boat finished a strong seventh in the morning time trials in a field of 32 boats. Later in the afternoon, the V8 took third in its semifinals race and will compete in the varsity eight petite final scheduled for 9:50 am on Saturday.
The varsity four boat had a terrific performance in its morning time trial, finishing third with a time of 6:54.70 behind only Washington and California in a field of 20 boats. Due to worsening weather conditions, BU's varsity four semifinals, which was scheduled for 5:30pm on Friday, was canceled. As a result, the top six boats from the time trials advanced directly to the grand finals. The BU V4 will race for a national championship at 10:30am.

VARSITY EIGHT
The varsity eight boat, coxed by
William Mulhall and stroked by
Paul Seiters, finished seventh in the morning time trial and finished seventh with a time of 5:33.49 in a field or 32 boats.
In its afternoon semifinals race, BU drew No. 1 ranked Washington, Northeastern, George Washington, Cornell and Drexel with the top two boats advancing to the grand finals.
Under deteriorating weather conditions, Washington, BU and Northeastern separated from the pack early with Washington establishing itself as the race leader over the first 500 meters. BU and Northeastern battled for second as Washington opened up its lead with NU edging ahead of BU at the 1000 meter mark. Washington coasted to victory with a time of 6:20.82, with Northeastern finishing second (6:24.84) and BU third (6:29.63). The Terriers finished well clear of GW (6:35.44), Cornell (6:42.71) and Drexell (6:43.11).
With the third-place finish, BU will compete in the petite final on Saturday at 9:50am.
