Inductee Bios
BOSTON - On Saturday, Jan. 21, the Boston University Athletic Hall of Fame held its 47th annual induction banquet as part of BU's Winterfest Weekend. The 2006 Hall of Fame inductees included Alison Caito (field hockey), Francis Okaroh (men' soccer), Heidi Steiber (women's tennis), and Chris Studer (wrestling). The Hall of Fame also recognized five individuals for their contributions to Boston University and intercollegiate athletics.
The 2006 William French Award, presented to a current or former Boston University coach or graduate who has distinguished himself or herself in the coaching profession in the past year, was given to Liza (Shoemaker) Kelly, head coach of the BU women's lacrosse team. In 2005 Liza guided the Terriers to an 18-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in America East play. The Terriers ended the season ranked #3 nationally, the highest national ranking for any women's sport in Boston University history. In 2005 Liza was named IWLCA North Region Coach of the Year, Inside Lacrosse Magazine Coach of the Year, and America East Conference Coach of the Year.
The Roger Moose Washburn Award, is presented to a graduate of Boston University who has given continuous unselfish support to the Boston University athletic program. The 2006 recipient of the award is C.A. Lance Piccolo (SED'62). Mr. Piccolo is the founder of Caremark, a 37 billion dollar Pharmacy Benefit Management company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors. Mr. Piccolo is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of building strategic healthcare businesses in the US. A graduate of Boston University and a football letter winner, he is a longtime supporter of Boston University and BU Athletics.
The Murray Kramer Memorial Award, is presented to an individual or organization in recognition of outstanding media coverage or publicity of intercollegiate sports. CSTV Networks, Inc. is the 2006 recipient of the Murray Kramer Memorial Award. CSTV Networks, Inc. is a multi-media company consisting of the first 24-hour college sports television network, College Sports TV; the leading college sports online network, CSTV.com; and the first 24-hour college sports radio network, SIRIUS College Sports Radio. CSTV provides more live college sports games, events, news, information, analysis and broadband content, and reaches more college sports fans, than any other company. Brian Bedol, a graduate of Boston University, and President, CEO and Co-Founder of CSTV Networks, Inc. attend the event to accept the award on behalf of the network.
This year the Aldo "Buff" Donelli Leadership Award was awarded to two senior athletes, Susan Marschall from women's soccer and men's golfer Jed Prescott. The "Buff" Donelli Award, is presented to a senior who has demonstrated outstanding leadership both on and off the field. Susan Marschall was a tri-captain on the women's soccer team for the 2005 season. Her personality, maturity and community involvement, coupled with her passion for the game, made her an outstanding leader on the field and off. Jed Prescott, the other 2006 recipient is a 3-time captain on the men's golf team, and has played a significant leadership role for his teammates as well as been an active participant in numerous community outreach activities during his tenure at BU. Both Susan and Jed have demonstrated strong leadership skills among their peers, coaches and athletic department administration.
All five of these special award recipients have proven their commitment to intercollegiate athletics, in one form or another, over the past year, and it was an honor to recognize them during the BU Athletic Hall of Fame 2006 Induction Ceremony.
