HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Boston University women’s cross country team finished third at the Patriot League Championship on Saturday at Colgate’s Harry Lang Cross Country Course.
BU was unable to defend its title for a third straight year, but the Terriers did edge Holy Cross to give BU another point in the Turnpike Trophy standings. The Terriers finished with 104 points, just ahead of the Crusaders (109). Bucknell won the event (34), followed in second by Navy (51). Army West Point finished fifth (125), with American (174), Lehigh (176), Loyola Maryland (195), Lafayette (243) and Colgate (251) rounding out the field.
Four Terriers placed in the top 25, led by senior Shelby Stableford in fifth. She crossed the line in 21:37.8. Freshman Courtney Breiner was next in 18th place (22:16.6), followed closely by junior Hallie Armstrong in 21st (22:23.8) and freshman Jamie Grossman in 25th (22:29.4).
Senior Erin Pierce placed 40th (23:02.7), with freshman Cara Moyer next in 58th (23:37.9). Freshman Elin Wolker (23:52.9), sophomore Alexia Zawadzke (24:01.5), sophomore Gabrielle DiRenzo (24:01.6), junior Colleen Tretheway (24:02.0), freshman Alicia Huerta (24:37.9) and freshman Leora Tofler (24:42.4) rounded out the Terrier contingent.
BU will be back in action on Nov. 13 when the Terriers race at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park.
