HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Boston University men's cross country team finished second at the Patriot League Championship on Saturday at Colgate's Harry Lang Cross Country Course.
The Terriers, predicted to finish third in the preseason poll, exceeded expectations but were unable to get past preseason favorite Navy (19 points), which won its third straight title. BU collected 88 points, edging Army in third (91) and Lehigh in fourth (95).
BU easily defeated Holy Cross (235) to claim a point in the Turnpike Trophy standings. The Crusaders finished seventh, behind American (103) and Bucknell (135). Lafayette was eighth with 250 points, followed by Colgate (257) and Loyola Maryland (274).
Senior Kevin Thomas led the Terriers with a fifth-place finish and was one of two BU harriers to finish in the top 10. Thomas finished with a time of 25:02.9, with the winner having crossed the line in 25:00.2.
Freshman Alexander Seal placed eighth and was named Rookie of the Year. Seal continued a terrific debut season with a time of 25:20.4. Senior Alec Olson joined seal in the top 15, placing 11th with a time of 25:23.3.
All five scorers for the Terriers finished in the top 50. Senior Paul Gennaro was 27th (25:44.2), followed by junior Ethan Homan in 46th (26:17.8). Junior Matti Groll finished 52nd (26:29.0), with senior Syian Srikumar behind him in 58th (26:43.0). Junior Tom Cunningham (26:46.3) and freshman Daniel Erickson (27:58.9) rounded out the BU contingent.
BU will be back in action on Nov. 13 when the Terriers race at the NCAA Northeast Regional, hosted by Boston College at Franklin Park.
