BOSTON – The Boston University women’s ice hockey team will welcome three freshmen as part of the Class of 2019, head coach Brian Durocher announced on Thursday.
Two forwards and a defenseman help comprise the incoming group, with two of the three skaters hailing from Massachusetts. Mary Grace Kelley, whose brother Tommy skates on the men’s ice hockey team, comes from Natick while Sammy Davis is from Pembroke. Defenseman Connor Galway (Athens, Ontario) is the lone Canadian in the class.
"Thanks to the tremendous effort and diligence of assistant coaches Katie Lachapelle and Allison Coomey we will add three quality student-athletes to our program," Durocher said. "I am most appreciative of the time, energy and concern that our staff brings to this process. Each of these talented young ladies will bring a track record of academic and athletic success to this institution. I am certain that they will be strong contributors to Boston University, our program, and the local community. Our entire staff looks forward to their initial year on campus and the chance to work with each of them."
Lachapelle was behind the bench when Davis helped lead the United States to a gold medal at the 2015 IIHF Women’s World Under-18 Championship. This is the fourth straight year that an incoming freshman has claimed gold at the IIHF Under-18 Women’s World Championship.
Davis, Galway and Kelley join a group of 19 returning letter winners, including junior Alexis Crossley, who will make her Terrier debut this season after sitting out the 2014-15 campaign due to Hockey East transfer rules.
In addition to Crossley, sophomore Ashlyn Aiello will join the Terriers for the upcoming season. Aiello just completed her freshman year at BU and played for the independent club team, which won its 2014-15 league championship.
