LEWISBURG, Pa. - Junior Adela Cejnarova went wire-to-wire for her second straight Patriot League individual title to help lead the Boston University golf team to a second-place finish at the 2016 Patriot League Women's Golf Championship, which concluded Sunday at Bucknell Golf Club.
Cejnarova never relinquished the lead as she broke her own conference tournament record with a 54-hole total of 219 (72-76-72), three strokes better than her winning total of 222 last year. She was named Patriot League Golfer of the Year for her incredible performance, as she cleared the field by seven strokes. No other golfer matched Cejnarova's two rounds of 72.
BU nearly erased a 10-shot deficit on Sunday to claim its second straight championship, but Richmond was able to hang on and win by six strokes. The Terriers combined for a two-day total of 919, including a final-round 299, which was the low round of the weekend. That score easily secured another point in the Turnpike Trophy standings, as Holy Cross finished sixth with a total of 1033.
Freshman Megan Carter earned Second Team All-Patriot League honors after a sensational weekend. She finished tied for seventh with a score of 230 (77-78-75), with two birdies on the final day helping her to a collegiate-low 75. Sophomore Phyllis Tang tied for 11th with a 234 (76-82-76), bookending her weekend with a pair of 76s.
Three seniors capped incredible collegiate careers on Sunday. Emily Tillo tied for 16th with a 236 (79-81-76). Last year's runner-up was the Patriot League Golfer of the Month for March and can become the first person to be named Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year for a third straight year. Maddy Silverman had a top-30 finish with a score of 248 (79-84-85) while Sarah Easton finished with a 255 (86-85-84).
Three of the Terriers' top four scorers from this weekend will return for the 2016-17 season, including Cejnarova, who will aim to become a three-time individual champion. If she does so, she will be the first golfer, male or female, to accomplish that feat.
