Emily Tillo Woman of the Year

Tillo Named Patriot League Woman of the Year

July 25, 2016

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Emily Tillo of the Boston University golf team was selected as Patriot League Woman of the Year, the conference announced on Monday.

Tillo is the second Terrier in as many years to be selected by the Patriot League as the conference's Woman of the Year; Valentina Cerda Eimbcke of the field hockey team earned that distinction last year.

A three-time Patriot League Women's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Tillo is one of 141 conference honorees across all three divisions who are candidates for NCAA Woman of the Year. The Woman of the Year selection committee, made up of representatives from the NCAA membership, will then choose the top 30 honorees - 10 from each division.

From the top 30, the selection committee determines the top three honorees from each division and announces the nine finalists in September. The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics then chooses from among those nine to determine the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year.

The top 30 honorees will be celebrated and the 2016 NCAA Woman of the Year winner will be announced at the annual award ceremony Oct. 16 in Indianapolis.
Tillo indeed distinguished herself in the four pillars of the Woman of the Year Award – academics, athletics, service and leadership. A recipient of the Patriot League Sportsmanship Award, Tillo served as the president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and represented her team for three years in the BU Athletics Leadership Academy. She also initiated the "It's on Us" campaign to end sexual assault at BU.

In the classroom, Tillo earned a 3.94 grade-point average and graduated summa cum laude from the Questrom School of Business in May. She also minored in journalism in the College of Communication.

On the course, Tillo averaged a 78.0 and carded a program-low 68 at the Battle at Boulder Creek. That four-under round helped her finish fourth at the event. She also tied for 16th at the Patriot League Championship to help the Terriers secure second. Tillo averaged a score of 78.14 in 95 collegiate rounds during an excellent career at BU.
