Nine Players, Three Coaches Represent BU Alumni in NHL Playoffs
April 12, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
The 2017 National Hockey League Playoffs begin on Wednesday night (April 12) and each of the eight first-round series includes at least one former Boston University standout. In all, 12 Terriers (nine players, three coaches) are in the hunt for the Stanley Cup.
No two Terriers will face off in the first round as there is at least one former BU player in every series:
Eastern Conference
Washington (Kevin Shattenkirk) vs. Toronto
Montreal vs. NY Rangers (Adam Clendening)
Pittsburgh (Nick Bonino, head coach Mike Sullivan) vs. Columbus
Ottawa vs. Boston (Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson, Charlie McAvoy, asst. coach Jay Pandolfo, asst. coach Joe Sacco)
Western Conference
Chicago vs. Nashville (Colin Wilson)
Anaheim vs. Calgary (Alex Chiasson)
Edmonton (Eric Gryba) vs. San Jose
Minnesota (Charlie Coyle) vs. St. Louis
Last season, Sullivan led Pittsburgh to its fourth Stanley Cup title with Bonino playing a key role for the Penguins throughout the playoffs. They became the seventh and eighth Terriers to have their names etched on the Cup.
Charlie McAvoy will become the first Terrier to make his NHL debut in the playoffs when the Bruins open their first-round series in Ottawa. McAvoy is the 81st former BU player to reach the NHL and the sixth to make his debut this season.

Stanley Cup Playoffs are always great, but they're even better when there's a Terrier in every game! #ProudToBU pic.twitter.com/uRLSpDnwmg
