All-America First Team Honors for McAvoy
April 7, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
CHICAGO - Sophomore defenseman Charlie McAvoy of the Boston University men's ice hockey team has been named a CCM/AHCA Hockey First Team All-American, as announced on Friday at the NCAA Frozen Four in Chicago.
The lone sophomore on the East first or second teams, McAvoy led BU blueliners with 26 points on five goals and 21 assists and was the only underclassman among this year's Hockey East First Team All-Stars. He scored six of his points (1g, 5a) during the postseason to finish his two-year BU career with 51 points (8g, 43a).
This marks the third straight year that the Terriers have had a representative on the AHCA All-America First Team. Matt Grzelcyk received the accolade last year and was joined by Jack Eichel in 2015. BU and Harvard are the only teams in the country which have had at least one first-team selection in each of the past three seasons.
McAvoy, a 2016 first-round pick of the Boston Bruins, is currently playing for the AHL's Providence Bruins.
