Oettinger, Bowers Reach the Stage in First Round of NHL Draft
June 23, 2017 | Men's Ice Hockey
CHICAGO - Rising sophomore Jake Oettinger and incoming freshman Shane Bowers were selected a pick apart by the Dallas Stars (26th) and the Ottawa Senators (28th) in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft on Friday evening at the United Center.
Oettinger was the only goaltender taken on Friday as the Stars traded up three spots with draft host Chicago to select the Lakeville, Minnesota, native who was a Hockey East All-Rookie Team honoree last season as a freshman. Two picks later, Bowers, a Nova Scotia native, was picked up the Senators following two impressive seasons with the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL.
For the second straight year, BU led all college teams in first-round picks following a 2016 draft that saw four Terriers go in the first 19 selections. Oettinger and Bowers became the 16th and 17th Terriers, respectively, to be draft in the first round of an NHL Draft.
