Bach, Leslie, Rodgers Selected in 2017 NWHL Draft
August 17, 2017 | Women's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Rising seniors Victoria Bach, Rebecca Leslie and Nina Rodgers of the Boston University women's ice hockey team were all selected in the 2017 NWHL Draft on Thursday night.
No other school in the nation had more players taken in this year's NWHL draft than BU. Bach was the first Terrier off the board, going seventh overall to the New York Riveters. Rodgers followed when the Connecticut Whale chose her with the 17th overall pick. Leslie went two picks later at 19th, joining Bach as a Riveters selection.
All three players are expected to be a big part of the Terriers' 2017-18 campaign. Leslie will captain the squad; she enters the year with 114 career points (45g, 69a) after finishing last season with 16 goals and 18 assists. Bach, a Hockey East and New England Division I All-Star a year ago, has 131 career points (65g, 66a). She was the top scorer in the league last season, securing a career-high 49 points thanks to a team-best 26 assists and a career-high 23 goals. Rodgers shined in her first season at BU. She collected career highs with 31 points on 11 goals and 20 assists in a breakout season.
All three Terriers will potentially play with another alumnus next season following graduation. Rebecca Russo re-signed with the Riveters following an outstanding rookie campaign in 2016-17, while Shannon Doyle and Anya Battaligno will be back with the Connecticut Whale. It was also a busy offseason for two Terrier standouts from last year. Mary Parker signed with the Boston Pride and Maddie Elia inked a deal with the Buffalo Beauts earlier this summer.
