Softball Heads West to New Mexico State's Troy Cox Classic

BOSTON – After claiming wins over the ACC and Big Ten in Florida, the Boston University softball team will head to New Mexico State's Troy Cox Classic to participate in five games over the weekend.
The challenging schedule will present the Terriers with matchups against two-time defending national champion Oklahoma, the host and defending WAC champion New Mexico State (2x) and Ball State (2x), who joined the Sooners and Aggies in posting a winning record last year.
Live stats will be provided for all five games. The coaching staff will utilize Facebook Live to stream four of the games, as the first meeting with New Mexico State will be shown on the WAC Digital Network for free.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- BU went 3-2 last weekend in Florida with wins over Duke (7-4, 8 inn.), Northern Illinois (6-2) and Michigan State (3-0) with losses to Bethune-Cookman (6-1) and Ohio State (3-2, 8 inn.).
- The Terriers will participate in three games against teams that reached the NCAAs last season (NMSU 2x, Oklahoma) ... BU is 0-1 this season against postseason participants with the heartbreak loss to the Buckeyes, who received the most votes outside one of the two top-25 national polls.
- BU hit .293 last week while holding opponents to .224 ... The Terriers allowed two solo homers but still finished with a 7-6 advantage in extra-base hits.
- Juniors Alex Heinen (.500 avg., 5 RBIs) and Madi Killebrew (.444 avg.) recorded a team-high eight hits apiece, while seniors Jilee Schanda (.316 avg.) and Brittany Younan (.300 avg.) tallied four runs scored apiece and a combined three triples.
- Freshman Ali Dubois (3-1, 0.70 ERA) appeared in all five contests and finished with 15 strikeouts against nine walks in 20.0 innings ... Sophomore Kali Magane (0-0, 1.31 ERA) pitched four scoreless innings against Ohio State before allowing a run.
BALL STATE (Friday, 6:15 p.m. ET | Saturday, 1:15 p.m. ET)
- The Cardinals went 30-28 last season and 0-2 in the MAC tournament.
- BSU was also in Florida this past weekend with the Terriers and went 3-2 at the FGCU tournament, posting wins over LIU Brooklyn (10-2), North Carolina State (8-2) and Georgetown (5-1) ... The two losses came against Memphis (5-1) and Florida Gulf Coast (4-1).
- The Cardinals hit .256 while holding opponents to .236 and had an 11-5 advantage in extra-base hits with the help of four homers.
- Kennedy Wynn went 5-of-13 (.385) with three homers and a team-high seven RBIs, while Hailey Demnianiuk hit a team-high .417 (5-of-12) with six runs scored.
- Carolyn Wilmes (2-1, 2.55 ERA) started three games while Aeshia Miles (1-1, 2.33 ERA) made the other two starts ... They combined for 23 strikeouts against 10 walks in 32 innings alongside Alyssa Rothwell, who appeared in all five contests in relief.
- BSU edged the Terriers, 5-4, in 2016 at the Maryland Invitational.
- The reigning WAC champion Aggies went 29-25 last season, including 0-2 in the NCAA tournament.
- NMSU is receiving votes in the national polls after winning last weekend's home series against No. 17/13 Kentucky ... The Aggies first won 12-9 and then 10-6 before falling in the rubber game, 10-2.
- The Aggies hit .375 while holding the Wildcats to .309 over three contests and finished with a 13-11 advantage in extra-base hits, highlighted by nine doubles.
- Fahren Glackin posted a near-perfect .917 on-base percentage with four hits, four walks, three hit-by-pitches and four runs scored ... Victoria Castro went 5-of-11 alongside Kelsey Horton, as they combined for three homers and 12 RBIs.
- Both Kayla Green (2-0, 1.91 ERA) and Samaria Diaz (0-1, 4.77 ERA) pitched 7.1 innings apiece with Green holding the Wildcats to a .219 hitting percentage ... Analise De La Roca allowed a combined 10 earned runs in five innings of work out of the bullpen.
- The teams last met in 2004 with the Terriers sweeping a doubleheader at Las Cruces, 5-0 and 12-8.
- The Sooners went 61-9 en route to their second consecutive NCAA championship ... They opened the title defense with a 3-2 nine-inning loss to North Dakota State in the regionals as the No. 10 national seed but bounced back to win their last 10 contests by a combined score of 58-26, including a 6-4 10-inning elimination game victory over Tulsa and a pair of wins over Florida (7-5, 17 inn. / 5-4) in the WCWS championship round.
- Oklahoma opened the new season at the Grand Canyon Kickoff tournament with five victories by a combined score of 35-4 ... OU edged both Weber State (6-3) and Montana (4-0) and also claimed wins over Grand Canyon (8-1, 10-0) and Pacific (7-0).
- The Sooners hit .359 over the five games while holding opponents to .171 ... They went 16-of-17 in stolen base attempts and claimed a 13-3 advantage in extra base hits with five homers.
- Sydney Romero went 8-of-15 (.533) and tied Nicole Pendley (.500) with five RBIs apiece ... Jocelyn Alo hit 7-of-17 (.412) with two homers and team-high six runs scored.
- Both Paige Parker (3-0, 0.00 ERA) and Mariah Lopez (1-0, 2.79 ERA) made two starts apiece and combined for 28 strikeouts in 22 innings ... Paige Lowary (1-0, 0.00 ERA) made the other start and appeared in three contests total, tallying six strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
- OU won the last meeting against BU, 14-4, at Arizona State's Littlewood Classic in 2015.
