Bach One of Three Finalists for Patty Kazmaier Award
March 1, 2018 | Women's Ice Hockey
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Victoria Bach of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named a top-three finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, USA Hockey announced on Thursday.
Bach is the second player in program history to be a top-three finalist for the prestigious award, which is given annually to the top player in NCAA Division I women's ice hockey. Three-time Olympian Marie-Philip Poulin ('15) was the first Terrier to earn that recognition, doing so as a senior in 2015.
The award will be presented on Saturday, March 17, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, site of the 2018 Frozen Four. Daryl Watts of Boston College and Loren Gabel of Clarkson are the other two finalists.
"Victoria has been a talented and consistent offensive player throughout her career," head coach Brian Durocher said. "This season, she took her game and her offensive production to another level. Her elite skating, highly evasive hand skills and deceiving shot allowed her to be a threat from any part of the rink. This included penalty-killing assignments where she regularly created shorthanded opportunities. She improved in all areas of the game and worked hard to be prepared each day."
It was a season to remember for Bach, who rewrote the Terrier record book. She is second in the NCAA in goals (39) and fourth in the country with 67 points; those two marks are new single-season program records. Bach also scored her 100th career goal on Feb. 13, becoming the first player in school history to tally 100 goals at BU. She also broke Sarah Lefort's program record of 183 career points and concluded her illustrious career with 198 points (104g, 94a)
The Milton, Ontario, native leads the NCAA in goals per game (1.18) and shots on goal per game (6.70), and is third in the country in points per game (2.03). Bach is also first in the nation in even-strength goals (30), road goals (24) and goals away from home (31). She has recorded 10 multi-goal games and is the only NCAA player to notch four hat tricks and two four-goal games this season. Bach's overall numbers may have been even better had she not missed four games in the middle of the season to serve as an assistant captain for Canada at the 2018 Nations Cup.
In addition to her hard work on the ice, Bach has made an impact in the classroom and in the community. She holds a 3.08 grade-point average in the College of Communication as an advertising major. Bach has also been active in the community, participating in the Holiday Reading Program and Skating Strides against Breast Cancer.
"Victoria is a quiet leader who lets her everyday performance speak volumes within our program," Durocher siad. "Victoria's academic success, community service contributions and determined effort throughout her career make her a worthy candidate for the Patty Kazmaier Award."
