Terriers Advance 3V and V4 to IRA Grand Finals

RESULTS
WEST WINDSOR, NJ. – Highlighted by the third varsity eight and varsity four boats advancing to the grand finals, the Boston University men's rowing team competed in day 2 of the IRA National Championship Regatta on Saturday.
The BU 3V finished second in its semifinal, defeating Yale, Dartmouth, Syracuse and Cornell to move on to Sunday's grand final. The Terriers' varsity four boat also finished second in its semifinal and advanced to the grand final while BU's varsity eight and second varsity eight will both compete in the petite finals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
VARSITY EIGHT
(1 -Uros Marinkovic, 2 - Max Ponsen, 3 - Simon Klose, 4- Jacob Barker, 5 - Nils Kocher, 6 - Jacob Raillon, 7 - Grant Eberst, 8 - Ole Bang-Andreasen, C - Sean Dooling)
• On Saturday morning, the No. 8 seeded varsity eight competed in the second semifinal against No. 2 Yale, No. 4 Harvard, No. 6 Princeton, No. 9 Syracuse and No. 11 Dartmouth with the top three boats advancing to the grand final.
• Yale got off to an early lead over the first 500 meters with Harvard in second while the other crews battled for third. Princeton settled into third while BU stayed close to the Tigers for the all-important final qualifying position. Princeton pulled away from BU over the second 500 meters and passed Harvard for second while BU fell back with Syracuse and Dartmouth. BU could not close on the top three down the stretch as Yale won the semifinal with a time of 5:39.24 to qualify for the grand final along with Harvard (5:41.82) and Princeton (5:43.12). Syracuse finished fourth (5:46.91) followed by Dartmouth (5:50.63) and BU (5:58.20).
• The No. 8 Terriers will compete in the petite final against No. 9 Syracuse, No. 7 Northeastern, No. 10 Stanford, No. 11 Dartmouth and No. 14 Wisconsin on Sunday at 8:05 a.m.
SECOND VARSITY EIGHT
(1 - Paul Giroux, 2- Isaac Mocarski, 3 - TJ Ruijgh, 4- Nicolas Robertson, 5- David Fox, 6- William Boudreau, 7 - Kyle Blackburn, 8 - Andrew Marsh, C- Justin Goucher)
• In Saturday's semifinal, the No. 13 seeded 2V8 took on No. 4 Yale, No. 6 NU, No. 7 Harvard, No. 8 Dartmouth and No. 10 Wisconsin with the top three boats advancing to the grand final.
• In the semifinal BU got off to a good start and settled into third place behind Yale and Harvard at the 500 meter mark. Northeastern pulled even with BU around the 1000m mark and moved ahead over the next 500 meters as BU fell back and battled for fourth with Dartmouth and Wisconsin. Yale cruised to victory with a time of 5:48.17, followed by Harvard (5:51.28) and Northeastern (5:53.05) and moved on to the grand final. Dartmouth finished fourth (5:55.64) followed by BU (5:57.26) and Wisconsin (6:01.01) and moved on to the petite final.
• The No. 13 Terriers will compete in the petite final against No. 5 Brown, No. 8 Dartmouth, No. 9 Syracuse, No. 11 Cornell and No. 10 Wisconsin at 8:19 a.m.
THIRD VARSITY EIGHT
(1- Travis Kennedy, 2 - Theodore Thun, 3 - Andrew Dellechiaie , 4 - Riley Overfield, 5 - Zachary Burkhart, 6 - Theo Warren, 7 - Hayden Folgert, 8 - Jared Naar, C - Chloe Jacobs)
• On Saturday morning, the No. 6 seeded Terries took on No. 2 Yale, No. 5 Harvard, No. 8 Dartmouth, No. 9 Syracuse, and No. 10 Cornell with the top three boats advancing to the grand finals.
• In the semifinal, Yale and Harvard got off to an early lead with BU and Dartmouth battling for third. The Terriers made their move at the 500m mark and surged ahead of Dartmouth and into third place behind Yale and Harvard as all three crews settled into qualifying position well ahead of fourth place Dartmouth. BU pulled ahead of Yale down the stretch and finished second with a time of 5:55.25, behind winner Harvard (5:52.61) and ahead of Yale (5:55.25), Dartmouth (6:04.49), Syracuse (6:06.31) and Cornell (6:10.82).
• The No. 6 BU third varsity eight will race in the grand final against No. 1 Washington, No. 2 Yale, No. 3 California, No. 5 Harvard and No. 7 Northeastern on Sunday at 7:58 a.m.
VARSITY FOUR
(1- Max Sullivan, 2 - Michael Boston, 3 - Jack Schofield, 4 - Erik Arhold, C - Grace Heavey)
• The V4 faced Drexel, Holy Cross, Georgetown, Dartmouth and Brown with the top two boats advancing to the grand finals.
• In a very exciting semifinal race, all six crews got off to an even start with all boats within contact at the 500 meter mark. Drexel surged well ahead at the 1000 meter mark and was followed by BU and Holy Cross. BU and the Crusaders battled for the all-important second spot for the remainder of the race with several lead changes but the Terriers pulled away from Holy Cross down the stretch to finish second. Drexel finished first with a time of 6:31.91, followed by BU (6:38.04), Holy Cross (6:39.14), Georgetown (6:39.43), Dartmouth (6:41.99) and Brown (6:48.01).
• BU's V4 will race in the grand final on Sunday at 9:08 a.m. when they take on Washington, Drexel, California, Princeton and Holy Cross.

The BU 3V finished second in its semifinal, defeating Yale, Dartmouth, Syracuse and Cornell to move on to Sunday's grand final.
