Carolyn L. Harrington, whose athletic ability took her from the collegiate playing fields to the international level, was a four-sport standout during her athletic career at Boston University.

A highly versatile individual, Harrington was the starting shortstop on the fast-pitch softball team, played both halfback and fullback in field hockey, alternated between center and forward on the basketball court and was a defensive specialist in lacrosse.

Her talents were not limited to athletics, as she was a dean's list student and recipient of the Sargent Camp Award in 1965. She was also recognized in the Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.

After graduation, she was a member of the Boston Field Hockey Association First Team that competed at the national tournament in both 1966 and 1968, and played against touring teams from New Zealand, Great Britain, and Ireland.

In basketball she played in the Boston Park and Recreation team from the mid sixties through the early seventies, and earned selection to the "Ivy Nine" team that squared off with an Irish touring team in 1967.

The skill she displayed at Boston University was also evident following graduation when she led a Waltham, Mass. team to a fifth-place finish in the 18-team National Women's Fast-Pitch Softball Tournament in Tucson, Ariz. in 1972.
