BOSTON-- Senior co-captains Rusty Read (Hawthorne, NJ) and Jameel Abdullah (Piscataway, NJ) will represent Boston University at the 1999 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships at Penn State on March 18-20.
The 157-pound Read will be making his second appearance at the Championships, having also qualified in 1997. He has posted a 26-5 overall record this season, including a 14-1 mark in dual meets. He finished the regular season as the number-one ranked 157-pounder in the East Coast Wrestling Association, and was ranked 19th nationally by Amateur Wrestling News.
Abdullah will be making his first trip to the nationals, having narrowly missed a berth last year. He recently captured third place at the ECWA Championships on March 7 after undergoing knee surgery the previous week to correct an injury suffered against Rider on Feb. 13. Abdullah has posted a 22-5 record on the year, including 10-1 in dual meets, and has been ranked as high as tenth in the nation by InterMat, a wrestling web site.
This year's young Boston University squad finished the season at 7-8 overall, 2-5 in the conference, and placed sixth at the ECWA Championships out of eight teams.
