Terriers Picked to Finish Eighth In CAA Preseason Poll

BOSTON - The Colonial Athletic Association has announced its preseason wrestling rankings for the 2002-03 season. The poll, which is determined by the coaches of the CAA, has Boston University ranked eighth in the 11-team conference.
Defending champion Hofstra, with seven individually ranked wrestlers, garnered the most points with 20. Last year's runner-up, Drexel, is ranked second with 17 points, three points behind Hofstra. Rider rounds out the top three with 14 points.
Individually, senior Ed Strauss was picked second in the 184-pound weight class and senior Jason Holder was chosen fourth at 149. Strauss is coming off a year in which he compiled a 12-7 overall record, including a 5-2 conference mark. Strauss also finished fourth at the CAA Championship. Holder is coming off his best season as a Terrier. As a junior, he compiled an overall record of 21-10. Holder took third place at the CAA Championship and recorded a 9-2 mark in conference matches.
Last season, in their first year in the CAA, the Terriers were ranked seventh in the preseason poll. B.U. compiled a 5-2 conference mark and finished third at the CAA Championship. Overall, the Terriers completed the 2001-02 campaign with an 11-4 mark. The 11 wins were the most by a B.U. wrestling squad since the 1993-94 season in which it went 12-1.
