February 1, 2002 | Men's Wrestling
BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team hung tough against one of the best teams in the Colonial Athletic Association but eventually fell to Drexel (14-1, 7-0), 22-17, at Case Gymnasium on Friday (Feb. 1st).
Individually for BU, Jose Leon (Santa Ana, CA) and Mark Laramee (Rockland, MA) both recorded pins. Leon's pin, his fourth of the season, came at 4:14 of his match against Rob Rebmann. Laramee, wrestling at 141 pounds, pinned Scott Mahr at 3:15. The pin was Laramee's first of the year.
Also victorious for the Terriers were Jason Holder (Salem, NH), who upended Matt Kennett, 3-2 and Ali Abri (Ashland, VA) who defeated Pat Miller, 5-2. With the win Holder improves his record to 6-1 in dual matches and 14-7 overall, while Abri remains perfect in dual matches (7-0) and is now 22-7 overall.
Drexel proved to be too tough in the end, however, as Joey Rivera (Stroudsburg, PA), Chad Grant (Edin Rapids, MI), and Leet Brady (Tulsa, OK) lost very competitive matches. Bryon Nelson (North Kingston, RI) suffered a major decision to Ben Chunko, 14-4 at 174 pounds and Benjamin Schilens (Westlake, OH) was pinned at 4:11 of his match with Carl Schmidt.
The Terriers will try to rebound from the loss on Wednesday (Feb. 6th), as they head to Chestnut Hill to take on the Boston College Eagles. Boston University has never lost to BC, compiling a 31-0 record.
