Terriers Continue Dominance Over Wagner, 44-3

BOSTON - The Boston University wrestling team cruised to a 44-3 conference victory over Wagner University at Case Gym on Friday, Jan. 10. Of the eight contested matches, Terrier wrestlers pinned their opponents five times.
B. U. improves its record to 3-1 overall and 2-1 in the Colonial Athletic Association. Wagner falls to 1-3 and 0-1 in the CAA. After Freshman Michael Galorenzo (Oradell, N. J.) won by forfeit at 125, fellow freshman Justin Blumenthal (Madison, Wisc.) extended the B. U. lead to 11-0 at 141 by way of technical fall over Wagner's Rob Markuske.
Senior co-captain Jason Holder (Salem, N. H.) then pinned the Seahawks' Geno Ronkiewicz at 4:00, to give B. U. a 17-0 advantage. Sophomore Rayes Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) followed at 157 with a win over Vinny Vazzana by pinfall 1:41 into their match.
Junior Leighton Brady (Tulsa, Okla.) made it three falls in a row when he downed Wagner's P. J. Richard at 3:49 to push B. U.'s lead to 29-0.
Junior Ben Schilens (Westlake, Ohio) won a tight match at 174 over George Snowflack, getting the decisive two points with only seconds left in regulation. He won, 11-9.
Senior Ed Strauss (Easton, Pa.) earned B. U. another six points when he pinned the Seahawks' Ryan Hayes in the 184-lb match. Wagner got its only win of the night at 197. Rob Panfili defeated B. U. senior co-captain Chad Grant, 4-6, to earn the Seahawks' only points.
The heavyweight match was the final one of the competition, and sophomore Courtney Howard pinned John Cichon 4:25 into their match.
It was the 12th straight win for the Terriers over Wagner, which has never beaten B. U. In the last five matches, the Terriers have outscored the Seahawks, 208-6.
The Terriers next wrestle on Saturday, Jan. 11, when they host Sacred Heart University in a conference matchup at Case Gym. Start time is 7 p.m.
