Terrier Wrestlers Fall to Rider, 20-12

Lawrenceville, NJ- The Boston University wrestling team (11-5, 7-3) won four matches but fell, 20-12, to Rider (11-9, 7-2) in Lawrenceville, NJ on Thursday February 20th. Rider entered the dual meet ranked second in the CAA, while the Terriers entered the contest in fourth.
Senior Jason Holder (Salem, NH) got the Terriers off to a good start when he defeated Joe Pollard 10-3 to give B.U. an early 3-0 advantage. But Rider's Derek Jenkins defeated freshman Jason Bankanowski (Shrewsbury, MA) by way of technical fall to give the Broncs a 5-3 lead.
Junior Leighton Brady (Tulsa, OK), currently ranked 19th in the country at 165, defeated John Robinson, 7-4, to give the Terriers a one point lead, 6-5. Rider went back on top when Bob Pizzuto defeated freshman Tom Sforza (Lindenhurst, NY) 6-1 in the 174-pound bout.
Senior Ed Strauss (Easton, PA), ranked second in the CAA at 184 pounds, recorded a 6-4 decision over Rider's Jared Terrell to once again put the Terriers ahead, 9-8.
Rider responded by winning the next four matches. Sophomore Joey Rivera (East Stroudsburg, PA) closed out the scoring with a 6-4 overtime victory over Jason Smith.
The Terriers will take to the mat Saturday February 22nd when they close out the dual match portion of their schedule against Harvard University.
